Dear EYFDM members, we are delighted to invite you to participate in the Conference Exchange Programme during the 11th EYFDM Forum & V Congreso de Residentes, Jóvenes Médicos de Familia, Tutores y Unidades Docentes de la semFYC.

The programme offers the opportunity to visit local primary care practices before the Forum begins, meet Spanish family doctors, learn about the healthcare system, exchange ideas with colleagues from across Europe and build international friendships.

About Spanish Primary Care

Family Medicine as the first point of contact

Spain has a strong public primary care system where Family Medicine serves as the first point of contact for most healthcare needs.

Family doctors work alongside nurses, administrative staff and other professionals within multidisciplinary teams, providing comprehensive, continuous and community-oriented care.

What to expect

Clinical observation, discussion and culture

This is an observational clinical exchange

Participants will observe consultations and healthcare organization, but will not provide clinical care or perform medical procedures.

Programme

Pre-Conference Exchange Programme

The programme will take place on 3–4 March 2027, immediately before the start of the 11th EYFDM Forum & V Congreso de Residentes, Jóvenes Médicos de Familia, Tutores y Unidades Docentes de la semFYC.

The organising committee is currently working on the final programme and confirming the participating host practices. More detailed information regarding the schedule, educational activities and host centres will be shared with selected participants in due course.

What’s included?

  • Visits to Spanish Family Medicine practices.
  • Support from the organizing team.

What’s not included?

  • Travel to and from Málaga.
  • Airport transfers and local transport.
  • Accommodation and personal expenses.
  • Meals, except those specifically organized.
  • Visa costs and organized social activities.

Local transport

Host practices will be allocated in locations reasonably accessible from Málaga and nearby accommodation areas.

For rural placements, the committee will endeavour to facilitate shared transportation whenever possible, but participants remain responsible for arranging and covering their own transport costs.

Participation

Eligibility, responsibilities and places

Applicants must

  • be Family Medicine residents, GP trainees or young family doctors;
  • be members of an EYFDM National Member Organisation;
  • have a good command of English;
  • attend the full programme.

Participants are expected to

  • attend the complete programme and arrive punctually;
  • respect confidentiality and follow host practice instructions;
  • behave professionally;
  • actively participate in discussions and cultural activities.

Number of places

20 places are initially available, with the possibility of increasing this number depending on the availability of host practices.

Selection criteria

How applications will be reviewed

Applicants should

  • be eligible according to the requirements above;
  • submit a complete application before the deadline;
  • demonstrate motivation to participate actively in the programme.

Preference may be given to applicants who

  • are attending an EYFDM Forum for the first time;
  • have not previously participated in a Conference Exchange;
  • demonstrate strong motivation;
  • can contribute to the exchange experience.

When allocating places, the Organising Committee will aim to ensure geographical diversity, representation of different EYFDM member organisations, opportunities for first-time participants and a balanced distribution across host practices.

Applications will first be reviewed and ranked by the National Exchange Coordinators. The Organising Committee will take these rankings into account while promoting geographical diversity and balanced representation across the EYFDM network.

Applications should be submitted through your National Exchange Coordinator.

Apply through your NEC

Submit your application through your National Exchange Coordinator. If your country does not currently have a NEC, or if you are unable to get in touch with them, contact eyfdm.spain@gmail.com.

Deadline: 15 October 2026 · 23:59 CEST · Documents: Curriculum Vitae and Motivation Letter.

National selection

Each NEC will review the applications received in their country and submit a ranked list to the EYFDM Conference Exchange Team. Deadline for NECs: 31 October 2026 · 23:59 CEST.

Final selection

The Organising Committee will allocate the available places. A waiting list will also be established. The final list of selected participants and the waiting list will be announced starting from 5 November 2026.

  • Passport or National ID.
  • European Health Insurance Card or medical insurance.
  • Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Confidentiality & Data Protection Agreement.

Depending on host requirements

  • Criminal Record Certificate.
  • Certificate of Good Standing / Good Conduct.
  • Child Protection or Sexual Offences Background Check Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Additional documentation if required.

Practical information

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. The programme will be conducted in English whenever possible.

Can I choose my host practice?

Host practices are allocated by the organising committee.

Will I receive a certificate?

Yes.

Can I attend only one day?

No. Participants are expected to complete the entire programme.
